Annual organics survey for Scotland – coming soon!

The annual survey of the organics industry will once again take place this year for Scottish facilities.

All operators (farm, industrial and merchant) of AD, composting and MBT facilities in Scotland will be contacted in the next few weeks to conduct the new survey, commissioned by Zero Waste Scotland, which will cover the 2014 calendar year.

Positive engagement in the survey is vital to ensure the report is accurate and representative, so that it will ultimately help the Scottish organics industry. The survey is particularly important this year as the information, in comparison with previous years, will help to demonstrate the impact the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 has had on this sector as well as indicate the volume of food waste now being collected from other sectors such as hospitality and retail.

The findings have previously been used as evidence to inform Zero Waste Scotland’s business planning process which includes support this sector. For facility operators, the survey offers the opportunity to raise concerns with policy makers and regulators.

By taking part you will be helping to shape the future of organics recycling in Scotland by helping us to understand where we are now, the challenges are being faced and the opportunities which could be developed.

The survey for 2013 can be found HERE.

We are currently in discussion with WRAP and other trade associations about plans for a survey for the rest of the UK.
