HSE Advice on Manual Handling.
Musculoskeletal disorders affect one million people annually and cost the tax payer £5.7 million annually.  Within the working environment a major cause of these disorders is manual handling, which is defined as lifting, carrying, lowering, pushing & pulling.  In addition to the weight moved the range and frequency movement can both be causal factors leading to injuries.
This area of the HSE website provides help and advice on avoiding injuries arising from manual handling.  There are several free to download documents available from the site.
