Compost and Biofertiliser Scheme Rules Consultation

REAL are consulting on the scheme rules for both the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (PAS110) and the Compost Certification Scheme (PAS100). They are aiming to make the rules suitable for UKAS accreditation, and are introducing new requirements to scheme operation and the auditing regime, based on significant discussions with industry. They have made quite a few changes to the structure, formatting, and scheme requirements, which are highlighted in yellow (with proposals in blue).

Compost Certification Scheme- Key changes presented in the draft version include:
  • Introduction of certification for 'Compost Certification Scheme Quality Assurance';
  • Introduction of the Research Hub and Research Fees;  
  • Proposal for sample witnessing during the annual inspection; and  
  • Proposal for annual unannounced spot checks or risk-based spot checks. 

Biofertiliser Certification Scheme  - Key changes presented in the draft version include:
  • Introduction of certification for 'Biofertiliser Certification Scheme Quality Assurance';
  • Proposals for contracting with third-party spreading contractors;  
  • Introduction of the Research Hub and Research Fees;  
  • Proposal for sample witnessing during the annual inspection; and  
  • Proposal for annual unannounced spot checks or risk-based spot checks.
