The Organics Recycling Group of the REA invite you courtesy of Veolia to a Sector Group meeting and site visit on Wednesday 19th April 2017 at Veolia’s facility near Whitesmith, East Sussex. This event provides an ideal opportunity for members to discuss current issues concerning organics recycling and visit a facility of interest.

Depending on numbers, the morning session may be held in a nearby hotel with the site tour in the afternoon.

Programme:

The morning session will start with coffee, followed by several short presentations covering:

•    General Update on ORG activities and relevant regulatory developments

•    Latest developments with the Waste Treatment BREF

•    Update on lastest developments from the Compost and Biofertiliser Certification Schemes

•    How you can reduce your insurance costs

•    Overview of Veolia’s organics recycling facility

After lunch and networking, the afternoon will be hosted by Veolia, who will provide a guided tour of their facility.

PPE:

PPE is required for the site visit: high visibility jacket/vest, hard hat and strong shoes. About Veolia’s Woodlands Facility:

The Woodlands In-Vessel Composting Facility in Whitesmith processes kitchen and green garden waste. This is waste arriving from all Veolia’s Household Waste Recycling Sites in the area. The modern facility is capable of processing up to 60,000 tonnes of biodegradable waste.

Veolia’s IVCs utilise automatic control systems to optimise the composting process and to guarantee the highest levels of sanitation and quality of the final compost.  Their facilities have been designed and fitted with the best available technology for the treatment of the air and water use and reuse, to guarantee the control of odours and emissions.

The facility is PAS-100 and Quality Protocol certified and permitted to treat Animal By-Products including household kitchen waste.  The composted material is trademarked Pro-Grow and available across the UK and used in a range of agricultural and horticultural applications.

Location:

The morning session will be either on site or in a nearby hotel and will be confirmed depending on numbers.

The site visit will be held at: Veolia, Woodlands IVC, The Woodland Centre, Whitesmith, East Sussex, BN8 6JB.
