Data collation launched to inform Best Available Techniques for the waste treatment sector

The JRC-IPTS has officially launched the plant-specific data collation which will be used to draw Best Available Techniques and define BAT AELs (emission levels) for the waste sector. These will be included in the new WT BREF which is due to be released in 2016.

A significant number of biowaste sites in the UK will be regulated as installation activities. The Environment Agency [SEPA, NRW & NIDoE] will be enforcing the BAT conclusions set out in the Waste Treatment BREF which will impact on your process, so, as highlighted before, it is very important that the JRC's questionnaire is completed by as many plants as possible and accurately. This will give the UK a chance to inform the Bureau on what those BAT conclusions should look like.

Data will be collated from 556 plants across Europe. 64 plants from the UK have agreed to participate in the data collation, of which 20 composting plants, 12 AD plants and 1 MBT plant.

The data collation will have to be completed by 31.10.2014 at the latest.

REA would like to thank those operators that have agreed to participate into the data collation. We appreciate this very much as we are aware that this will be a very time consuming and challenging exercise.
