European Commission starts review of waste management and recycling targets
On 04/06/2013 the European Commission has started a review of the legally-binding targets set out in the Waste Framework Directive, the Landfill Directive and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
The Commission is seeking industry views as part of its Targets Review Project, which has been commissioned by DG Environment. For more detail see
The basis for the review of the targets is twofold: on the one hand it is to respond to the review clauses set out in the Directives and, on the other, to bring these targets in line with the Commission's ambitions of promoting resource efficiency as detailed in the Roadmap on Resource Efficiency (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/resource_efficiency/about/roadmap/index_en.htm), the aspirations for which have been included as part of the Commission's proposal for a 7th Environmental Action Programme (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/newprg/pdf/7EAP_Proposal/en.pdf).
